- Minor work on the radiators
- Replacing any broken outlets
- Labeling the fuse box
- Landscaping around the house and the bushes by the sidewalk
- Trimming hedges and weed pulling
- Moving the "nest" of internet wires from the second floor hallway into the closet
- Replacing the mirrors in the second floor bathroom
- Placing some paddles that have been ripped off of the walls back in their places
- Stopping the second floor toilets from running
- Re-grading the driveway
- Caulking the dorm windows to seal them from the cold weather in the winter
- Paint the new fire protection pipes white
- Finish painting the first floor radiators white
- Clean and organize the paint room
I realize that not all of that work can be done over the weekend, but the more help we have the greater our house will look. If you have any questions or comments, or you have materials we could use to work on the house, please let me know at bschmid3@uiuc.edu, or call me at 630-536-6000. Thank you all so much for you time, and with your help, I know we can return our house to a spectacular place to live.

Here is the rough plan for the work weekend in order of necessity. It will probably be updated with more details in the near future.
- Paint fire protection pipes/Radiators – white spray paint for the radiators, rollers and white paint for the fire protection pipes, large plastic sheets. We already have some leftover paint from when we painted the walls, so the only cost for this part of the project will be for the rollers, plastic tarps, or more paint if we run out. Estimated cost $250. NEED PAINT ROLLERS AND PLASTIC TARPS
- Retaining bricks – we will be buying 240 “diamond straight” bricks from Menards. These will lie one brick high along the front of the house and the two landscape squares in the front lawn and four bricks high where the barbaque is next to the driveway. We will also buy landsaping glue and sand bags to level/secure the bricks. I will be bringing a brick saw to cut the corner pieces. Estimated cost $1500- $1600 (will be significantly higher if nobody voluteers their vehicles and we have to rent transportation). NEED SHOVELS, VEHICLES AND TRAILORS TO TRANSPORT BRICKS, RAKES, AND TAMPERS (tools used to compact the sand to provide for a solid base... I forgot the real name)
- Landscaping – We need to do a lot of weed pulling! I will be bringing liquid kill-all from my landscaping business, but many weeds are in the grass and will need to be pulled. Estimated cost $50 for work gloves if we can't find any for free. NEED WORK GLOVES
- Fix toilets – kits to make them stop leaking back into the bowl. We will be buying the kits, but will need to install them ourselves. Estimated cost is currently unknown.
- Power box – we need to lable the fuse box in case we ever need to shut off power to a certain area. We will only need lots of people to do this job so we can communicate to the basement which rooms are receiving power. Estimated cost $0
- Outlets – We need to replace quite a few of the outlets and outlet covers in the rooms. This can't happen until we find out how to shut off the power to the individual rooms. We will be purchasing plain white outlets and covers. Estimated cost $15.
- Move rats nest – We want to move all the wires for the internet and servers from being out in the open hallway into boxes on the wall or into the closet. We may need to buy some metal boxes to screw into the wall which would cost money. If people can bring some extra sets of screwdrivers in order to have more people working at the same time, we could get more work done. Estimated cost currently unkown. NEED SCREWDRIVERS AND WIRECUTTERS
- Caulk dorm windows – We want to seal the dorm room windows, because there are very large cracks in the windows and it gets incredibly cold in there in the winter. We will be buying caulk to seal up the windows. Estimated cost $30
- Put paddles back on walls – One of the class paddles was torn off the wall outside room number 3 this summer. We will be patching the drywall and putting it back on the wall. We will also be drilling a hole in it and two other paddles so they will be more secure to the wall and then all of the paddles will look the same. We just need to buy some drywall screws and possible some plaster. Estimated cost $20.
- Re-grade driveway – We want to regrade the driveway because it is getting some pretty large ruts in it. This may not happen during work weekend, however, due to cost issues. I am not yet sure where we would be able to buy the gravel from, or how we would transport it. Expected cost currently unknown. NEED LOTS OF GRAVEL
- Put up mirrors – We are considering replacing the mirrors in the second floor bathroom. These will also depend on the budget, and may not get done during work weekend. If we do get them, they will probably be shipped from up north, and we would need someone to volunteer to pick them up, or we would have to pay for transportation. NEED TRANSPORTATION
- Clean paint room – As ususal, cleaning the paintroom is on the schedule for work weekend, but this is a low priority and will only happen if we have extra manpower.
Thank you all for taking the time to look this over. As the new house manager I greatly appreciate your help and enthusiasum in trying to make our house into something beautiful once again. Please reply to this email with any questions, comments, or concerns, and I will respond to you as soon as possible. Hope to see everyone at the house on work weekend (july 14-16)!
